Wokha, March 28 – In a significant step towards empowering local women farmers, the Wokha district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, organized a one-day training on sustainable piggery and poultry farming. The event was held in partnership with Tepzen Agro-food FarmTech at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha.
The training featured expert insights from Dr. Gwazenlo Tep, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Wokha, and Dr. Joshua Kath, CEO & Marketing Executive of Tepzen Agro-food & FarmTech. Both resource persons provided valuable knowledge on sustainable livestock management practices to enhance productivity and economic stability.
Dr. Gwazenlo Tep emphasized that piggery and poultry farming are among the most sustainable and profitable livestock-based businesses. He encouraged participants to leverage government loans and subsidies designed to support farmers, unemployed youth, and entrepreneurs. He also stressed the importance of proper feed sources, integrated farming techniques, effective waste management, and disease prevention measures to ensure long-term success in poultry and piggery farming.
Dr. Joshua Kath focused on animal nutrition and management strategies. He highlighted the need for a well-balanced diet consisting of grains, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals to support the different growth stages of poultry and pigs. Additionally, he underlined the significance of maintaining proper housing, hygiene, and optimal environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and lighting, to prevent diseases and ensure overall livestock health.
The training program was chaired by Merithung Lotha, Gender Specialist at DHEW, with a welcome address delivered by SDO (C) Wokha, Rosy Sangtam. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Yanchumben Ngullie.
