Kolkata, February 14, 2025 – The 11th Kolkata International Poultry Fair 2025, organized by the West Bengal Poultry Federation in association with the Animal Resources Development Department, Government of West Bengal, successfully concluded at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre, Newtown, Kolkata. The event, held from February 12 to February 14, witnessed a remarkable turnout, bringing together industry leaders, farmers, students, and international participants.
The fair kicked off with an International Conference on Poultry Business (NOVACON) on February 11 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre. Eminent speakers from reputed organizations across India and abroad delivered insightful lectures, addressing key technological developments in the poultry industry. The conference was inaugurated in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the Additional Chief Secretary and Directors from various state government departments.
Key Highlights of the Event:
Student Zone: Students from various colleges actively participated in engaging sessions conducted by renowned poultry science experts and professors from the West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences. The initiative successfully inspired aspiring entrepreneurs and professionals, equipping them with valuable industry knowledge.
PAN India Broiler Coordination Committee Meeting (February 12): A crucial discussion took place regarding strategies to increase chicken consumption across India. Experts emphasized the importance of aligning with ICMR recommendations, which suggest a per capita meat consumption of 10.8 kg per year, compared to the current 7.4 kg. The meeting resulted in a renewed commitment to promotional campaigns aimed at boosting poultry consumption.
Technical Seminar & Eastern India Poultry Development Forum Meeting (February 13): A technical seminar designed for poultry farmers and industry professionals was conducted in Bengali and Hindi, ensuring accessibility to all attendees. Experts shared the latest advancements in poultry farming techniques, enhancing farmers’ knowledge and practical skills.
The Eastern India Poultry Development Forum meeting focused on addressing key challenges and opportunities in the poultry sector of Eastern and North Eastern India. Special emphasis was placed on increasing egg consumption, which currently stands at 104 eggs per capita per year, far below the ICMR-recommended 180 eggs. A comprehensive promotional strategy was proposed to bridge this gap.
Cultural Programme: A spectacular cultural program, featuring a captivating performance by singer Albert Kabo Lepcha, delighted attendees on February 13. The event, followed by a gala dinner, provided a platform for networking and celebration among industry members.
Closing Ceremony (February 14): The event concluded on a high note with a grand closing ceremony at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre. With over 30,000 visitors, including international participants from Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar, the fair successfully fostered industry collaborations, knowledge exchange, and business opportunities.
