Riyadh: In a significant operation against food fraud, Saudi authorities have confiscated 2,500kg of rotten poultry from an illegal storage facility in Riyadh. The operation led to the arrest of a Saudi national and several illegal residents who were repackaging spoiled poultry for sale.
According to officials, the suspects used household disinfectants to conceal spoilage indicators such as discoloration and foul odors. They then relabeled the products using fake brand names and forged production dates, putting unsuspecting consumers at serious health risks.
During the raid, authorities discovered over 100,000 counterfeit labels ready for use. The operation was carried out by commerce monitoring teams in coordination with security agencies to prevent unsafe food from reaching the market.
The Danger of Rotten Poultry
Consuming spoiled poultry can lead to serious foodborne illnesses, including salmonella, E. coli, and listeria infections, which may cause severe gastrointestinal issues and even life-threatening complications. Authorities have urged consumers to buy poultry only from trusted sources and check for genuine labeling and packaging before purchase.
