In response to the ongoing H5N1 avian influenza outbreak, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), under the Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry, has made it mandatory for all poultry farms across India to register with their respective state animal husbandry departments within a month.
This decision comes as part of the Centre’s “three-pronged strategy” to contain the spread of bird flu, following confirmed H5N1 outbreaks in 34 epicentres across eight states — Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
A high-level meeting, led by DAHD Secretary Alka Upadhyaya at Krishi Bhavan, brought together officials from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the poultry industry, and other key stakeholders. Discussions focused on urgent containment measures and preventing further disease spread.
What This Means for Poultry Farmers:
All poultry farms — regardless of size — must register with their local animal husbandry departments. This step is now compulsory and critical for disease monitoring and response.
At Eggora, we urge our 70,000+ farmers to act swiftly. Registration ensures compliance, safety, and continued operation during this critical time.
