Bird Flu Confirmed in Bokaro: District Administration Bans Chicken Sales

Bokaro: The district administration has imposed a strict ban on chicken sales following the confirmation of bird flu at the government poultry farm in Lohanchal, Sector-12. As a precautionary measure, the animal husbandry department has initiated the identification of poultry farms within a one-kilometre radius of the affected site.

District animal husbandry officer Manoj Kumar Mani confirmed that the process of locating poultry farms in the impacted zone is currently underway. Residents have been strongly advised to temporarily avoid consuming chicken to prevent any potential health risks.

Authorities have designated Sector-12, Dundibagh, Tetulia, Ritudih, Ukrid, and Lohanchal as infected zones, while regions within a 10-km radius are now under surveillance. Due to the high risk of transmission, officials have strictly prohibited the sale of chicken and ducks in these areas.

“We have instructed sellers in Dundibagh and Sector-12 to halt operations immediately. Additionally, chicken shops in Laxmi Market and nearby areas have been shut down to curb the spread of the infection,” stated Manoj Mani.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), bird flu (avian influenza) is a highly contagious A-type virus that can affect both humans and animals, posing serious transmission risks. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and implementing containment measures to prevent further outbreaks.
