Empowering Defence Personnel with Poultry Skills: Eggora Celebrates New Training Initiative

Palampur, April 8: A four-month certificate course in “Dairy, Poultry Farming, and Value-Added Dairy Products” was inaugurated today at the Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV), marking a significant collaboration between the Indian Armed Forces and the university to promote post-retirement livelihoods in agriculture and poultry.

The course, which runs until July 25, is specially designed for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and equivalent rank officers of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Its goal is to empower defence personnel with hands-on skills in dairy and poultry farming—two of the most vital sectors contributing to India’s agricultural economy.

The inaugural event was held at the seminar hall of the Directorate of Extension Education. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Naveen Kumar led the ceremony, welcoming 30 enrolled participants—10 from the Army, eight from the Navy, and 12 from the Air Force. He underlined the growing scope of poultry and value-added dairy products in India’s economic growth and highlighted their potential to drive rural entrepreneurship.

Guest of Honour Col Debadas Nanda from the 39th Division of the Indian Army applauded the initiative and said the practical knowledge gained during the course would pave the way for self-employment opportunities in poultry and dairy farming once personnel retire from active duty.

Dr Vinod Kumar, Director of Extension Education, addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of such skill-building programs in creating a smooth transition from military to civilian life. He was joined by other dignitaries, including the Dean of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and heads of departments from the university.

This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Director General of Resettlement (DGR), highlights the increasing focus on sustainable farming and rural development. For platforms like Eggora, which are revolutionizing the poultry industry through digital innovation and farmer empowerment, this signals a promising influx of skilled professionals ready to contribute to India’s agri-tech future.
